about

Straightgrain is An, a 32-year-old lecturer from Antwerp (Belgium). I got addicted to sewing a good 2 years ago, and have not sought treatment since.
I sew mostly for my 3-year old daughter Norah, who can make even my ugliest creations look acceptable.
"Straight grain" is sewing jargon, and refers to the direction in which you place your patterns on the fabric. I named my blog Straightgrain for two reasons. Firstly, the term "straight" expresses well how I like children's clothing: not complicated and full of campy embellishments, but simple so the fabrics get all the attention. Secondly, I really did not have any better ideas.
My mother tongue is Dutch, but I decided to write this blog in English because it enables me to get into contact with fellow sewing addicts from all over the world. My English is far from perfect, but hopefully it is good enough for most people to understand.
I would really love to hear from you at straightgrainblog [at] gmail.com...

  14. We 'nominated' you for the Liebster Blog Award (http://www.francessuzanne.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-liebster-blog-award-translated-love.html) ....from what we could gather, it is more of a 'get to know you' sort of post rather than an actual award {although you are very deserving of an award}!

    We hope you take the time to create your own post, and share a bit more about yourself to the blogging world!
    Ashley {Frances} and Emily {Suzanne}

  15. Hi, I recently discovered your blog (I was actually googling 'Kate Spain' to see how her fabric would look on a finished garment). So glad I found you and I love all your fabric choices for your adorable daughter's dresses. Looking forward to reading more from your blog. Alyssa (Australia)

  19. Hi. Not sure how I stumbled across your blog, but it is lovely. As someone who has all the stuff necessary to sew, but is totally intimidated, I appreciate that you've only been sewing for 2 years but make such nice stuff. Also, I lived near the tri border region in Germany and I LOVED Belgium. Brugges is one of my favorite places in all the world.

  20. I just discovered your blog, and having recently started sewing (just a few months before the birth of my daughter in November, 2012!!), I can TOTALLY relate to the addiction! Between sewing and knitting there are so many lovely things to make for little girls! I love your blog, and your daughter is precious. I love the clothes you sew, and your style! I can't wait to make more clothes for my own precocious angel!! :-) Thanks you!

  21. Wow An - what a beautiful blog you have created and that you can write so effortlessly in English puts me to shame. It was lovely to meet you by accident yesterday, one of those strange random moments in life! That you have only been sewing for a couple of years is quite inspirational, I'll be coming back to read more of your work.
